The Setting

Dawn over the Hollow. The candles have guttered, the salt circle is broken on purpose, and the brew on the hearth is still warm enough to drink. Rosemary leaves on her sleeve. Spearmint on her tongue. "Did it work?" he asks. She doesn't answer. She just smiles at him the way a woman smiles when she already knows.
